The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on September 09, 2026, issued a notification regarding instructions on the summary of EPR Registration for Plastic Importers.
The following has been stated: -
•The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) has issued an instruction highlighting the mandatory requirement for all importers of plastic packaging, commodities with plastic packaging, and plastic raw materials to register on the Central Pollution Control Board's Common EPR portal.
•Without obtaining this Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registration, importers are not permitted to carry out any business activities.
•The portal applications are scrutinized by CPCB or SPCB before issuing verified registration certificates to eligible importers.
•However, TNPCB reported that several importers are facing clearance difficulties at Customs due to invalid EPR certificates issued with only a one-year validity period.
